Trezor Start — Quick Setup & Secure Guide

A clean, step-by-step walkthrough to initialize your Trezor hardware wallet, create backups, and secure your crypto — written as an official-style guide for clarity.

Get started in 5 simple steps

Follow these steps exactly to reduce risk and make sure your device is genuine and secure.

  1. Unbox & verify

Inspect your package. Make sure the tamper-evident seals are intact and that the model number matches the purchase. If anything looks off, do not use the device.

  2. Connect to Trezor Suite

Open Trezor Suite on your computer (recommended) or use the official start page at trezor.io/start. Only download software from the official site.

  3. Initialize device

Choose Create a new wallet on the device. Write down your recovery seed (12/24 words) exactly as shown — on the supplied card. Never store the seed digitally.

  4. Set a PIN

Choose a strong PIN on the device. This prevents unauthorized access if your device is lost or stolen. Memorize the PIN; do not write it down near your recovery seed.

  5. Test & update

After setup, check your test transaction with a small amount. Keep firmware up to date by verifying updates within the official Suite only.

Security best practices

  • Never share your recovery seed. Trezor staff will never ask for it.
  • Only use official software and firmware signed by the manufacturer.
  • Consider a steel backup for long-term seed storage.
  • Keep a small test balance to verify transactions before moving large amounts.
